Here are some web sites with Domain Name tools and information about the Domain Name System.

The DNS Resource Directory: Master index of DNS resources: web sites, ftp archives, books, consultants, etc.
Amnesi - Internet Name Search Engine: This useful search engine lets you try to find web and ftp sites with partial or messed up names. (Also can give complete results with zone administration information and IP addresses.)
DomToolsWeb - Domain Tools Online: A very nice toolbox for DNS and related network information. It has an easy-to-use interface, and it's fast.
DomainSearch - multi-domain lookup: Slick searching tool for looking up a potential name in one or a hundred top-level or country top-level domains. Friendly and convenient interface, too.

INTERNIC - Domain Name Services: The Internic is the entity that administers the root of the DNS tree, and the top-level domains .com, .edu, .net, and .org.
ICANN: The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is the new governing body for domain names, IP address, protocol numbers, etc.
