My mother has been mentally ill most of her life - diagnosed as bi-polar. However, she started declining and having psychotic eposides about 4 years ago as well as having major aphasia. (Speech trouble). She has also always been an alcoholic with Borderline Personality Disorder. After a comprehensive neurological workup they now say she is schizophrenic and that her temporal lobes have atrophied to 1/4 of their normal size. (They say this is the result of non-medicated mental illness and long-term alcohol abuse.) She is volitile and has lost all ability to learn or reason. There are no more in-house psychiatric treatment centers where I am and I don't know what to do. Can any one help?
